POTD 2018/026. Space Shuttle Discovery Aft Fuselage Structure

On November 30, 2017 I ran a Throwback Thursday photograph of the SR-71 at the Udvar-Hazy Center. In the comments section to that post Jeff Brunelle asked if I had any shots of Space Shuttle Discovery, which is also on exhibit there. I told him I did and that I'd run it again for a future Throwback Thursday after the holidays. Since I wasn't carefully paying attention yesterday I missed TBT and instead ran a new image. No worries, there's always Flashback Friday to take it's place. Hope you enjoy this one Jeff.

Space Shuttle Discovery (Orbiter Vehicle Designation: OV-103) was the third space shuttle to enter service, preceded by Columbia and Challenger. It's final mission began Feb. 24 and completed March 9, 2011. It has the proud distinction of holding the record for the greatest amount of flight time of any spacecraft to date. Cumulatively it spent nearly a complete year in space. It performed research, it participated in the International Space Station's assembly, and carried the Hubble Telescope into orbit. Discovery now rests at the Smithsonian Institute Air and Space Museum's Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly, Virginia.

Photographed December 2, 2014.

I hope you enjoy today's J.W. Remington Photographics' Photo of the Day for January 26, 2018!
